A friend at work told me a bout a profiler website that you could send out an anonymous questionnaire out from to colleagues and friends to find out what they think of your personal 'brand' - I'm not sure what that means, but it sounded interesting, and a way of finding out what people think of how I work and what they think my strengths and weaknesses are.
Anyway, I only used the free part of the profiler, but these are the responses I got (9 people responded in total). With attributes there was a very long list of words that people had to chose 6 of. I've only including the things that 3 or more people ticked to describe me (there were lots more that only 1 or 2 people chose).
Attributes - Ethical (4), Organised (4), Trustworthy (4), Creative (3), Honest (3), Intelligent (3) and Supportive (3)
Skills - Communicating (listening, speaking) (4), Creating (4), Organising (content, activities) (3) and Public speaking (3).
With greatest strengths people could write whatever they wanted, so obviously there are 9 different answers:-
- always positive
- being supportive in an active way
- communication
- creativity
- exceptional intelligence and good judgement
- her adaptability - able to use her extensive skills for a range of activities/situations
- her flexibility and ability to turn her hand to many things
- her love of people, things and activities
- positive attitude
The same goes for greatest weaknesses:-
- a short blast of giving up when something goes wrong
- can't think of a weakness
- can get disheartened if things don't work out
- her lack of belief in herself and just how good she is
- her love of people, things and activities
- lack of self belief
- occasional unwarranted lack of self-confidence
- underlying lack of self confidence
- wears her heart on her sleeve
The last two questions were very strange indeed! 'If she were a breed of dog, what would she be and why?'
- a red setter - bouncy, energetic but far more intelligent than red setters normally are!
- box - strong image but also a nice animal
- chihuahua - small but fierce
- hot dog! - 'cos she is lovely!'
- labrador - loyal, likeable and intelligent
- mixed breed - retaining the best of each breed without the attendant neurosis and inbred problems of a pedigreed dog
- i don't know much about dogs, but they are generally loving creatures, and she fits that profile
and 'If Sarah were a household appliance, what would she be and why?'
- a computer because it was the greatest potential for the future
- a multipurpose tool - willing to tackle any job given to her
- a radio - informative, reflective, entertaining yet changeable and interesting
- a chandelier - she brings light and sparkle
- a kettle - couldn't do without her
- a microwave - always on fast speed
- a mixer - able to combine skills, situations, creative ingredients quickly and easily
Then team attributes, the questionnaire asked to choose a team role from a list that fits:-
- Doer - takes a portion of the project and executes it (3)
- Creator - comes up with creative ideas for what to do and how to do it (2)
- Facilitator - orchestrates the group, helping it to achieve its goal (2)
- Motivator - inspires others to be best and successful members of the team (1)
- Project Manager - manages all aspects of the project (budget, people, schedule, etc.) (1)
Then there was a section for free comments:-
- She has a lot of energy; channeling is her key challenge
- If She realised how good she was and kept her confidence levels up she would be unstoppable
- She should look back at her past jobs to remind herself how successful she has been and build her self-belief. Her enthusiasm and willingness to try new things are selling points for potential employers. She needs a job which makes her feel she is valued and doing something worthwhile (for example, working for a charity or environmental organisation)
- She is someone who 'makes things happen'
- She may need to decide if she keeps exploring and taking on new challenges workwise, or if she sticks with and builds on what she has already achieved. Easier said than done, however, in the current jobs market......
Some interesting answers here, not sure how to take it forward. One thing that is interesting is the early questions that comment on my self esteem and confidence, but in the past I've been told that I'm too confident and scare people with my enthusiasm!
